Aishwarya Majmudar — Ahmedabad singer and Chhote Ustad winner
Aishwarya Majmudar is a Gujarati and Hindi playback singer from Ahmedabad, known for garba, film songs and classical-leaning melody. She was already inside a Gujarati recording studio as a child. In February 2003 she sang for the Gujarati film Ghar Maru Mandir, years before a national television audience knew her name.
In 2008 she won the first season of Star Voice of India: Chhote Ustad. She was in her mid-teens. Amitabh Bachchan handed her the trophy at Goregaon Sports Club in Mumbai, after she beat Anvesha Dattagupta in the finale. The prize package that night included a singing contract with Big Music, money from Star Plus and a scholarship from LIC. On her own site she remembers being 14 through those months, and she names Aniket Khandekar and Gautam Mukherjee among her teachers.
Television did not stop with that trophy. She later sang on Music Ka Maha Muqabala with Himesh Reshammiya's team. The shows opened Hindi playback, but Ahmedabad, garba season and Gujarati cinema stayed the centre of her work. She has received the Gujarat State Award for playback singing. Her site is aishwaryamajmudar.com.
