Located 2 kilometers north of the town center stands the 12th-century Rukmini Devi Temple, an architectural and devotional gem dedicated to Lord Krishna’s chief consort, Queen Rukmini. While the main Dwarkadhish Temple stands in the middle of town, Rukmini Devi’s shrine stands isolated in the open coastal fields due to an ancient legend involving Sage Durvasa’s curse over unoffered water. As a living tradition of this legend, pilgrims visiting the temple participate in 'Jal Daan' (water donation to feed thirsty travelers across Saurashtra).
Architecturally, the Rukmini Devi Temple is an exquisite masterpiece of ancient Gurjara-Chalukya stone craft. The exterior walls are decorated with intricate sandstone carvings depicting celestial dancers (apsaras), floral vines, Naratharas (human life sequences), and sculpted panels of Lord Vishnu in various avatars. Inside, the sanctum houses a beautiful dark stone idol of Goddess Rukmini holding the lotus, conch, and mace.
In the evening, head to the westernmost tip of Dwarka's coast to visit Bhadkeshwar Mahadev Temple. Built atop a rocky marine promontory in the Arabian Sea, this ancient Shiva temple is surrounded by waves on three sides. During high tide, the sea waters naturally rise to submerge the walkway and perform Jalabhishek over the Shiva lingam.
Adjacent to Bhadkeshwar Mahadev lies Sunset Point and the Dwarka Chowpati promenade, where visitors gather to watch golden sunsets over the Arabian Sea while enjoying cold spiced buttermilk, roasted corn, and street snacks.
